A Classical Quartet + An Innovative Bass Guitarist and Songwriter
Composer and bassist Ben Short musically grew up in school orchestras. His songs are rich with classical production, but with an energy and flare influenced by bass guitar greats of the modern era.
And accompanied with exceptional talent on violin, cello, brass, and piano, the result is a unique and spellbinding small symphony!

Ben Short

Bass Guitarist
Ben Short is our fearless leader. The songwriter, the arranger, the rehearsal conductor. Truly In Lightning’s architect.
Ben has a Bachelor’s in Music Technology. He is the bass guitarist for multiple acts based out of Louisville.
Ben is a dedicated yogi and yoga instructor, teaching classes at various locations. He’s an avid swimmer and cyclist. And he also works as an assistant carpenter and handyman.
Jenny Terrell
Violin
Jenny Terrell is our secret weapon, our band enhancer, our roof raiser! The first violinist leading the vanguard to your ears.
Jenny is a career musician. She has a Bachelor's in Violin Performance, and a Master's in String Pedagogy!
Away from the band, Jenny spends her time teaching private violin lessons, drinking coffee, and bargaining with her two cats, Pepper and Patches.
Ben Taylor
French Horn / Trumpet
Ben Taylor is our special sauce. Our French hornist, our trumpeter, our hype man! Providing that symphonic brass sound to the band.
Ben is a music educator. He has a Bachelor’s in Music Education, and a Master’s in Wind Band Pedagogy!
He teaches for Louisville JCPS, is a marching band director, he plays with the Chamber Winds of Louisville, and he teaches French horn lessons.
John Marietta
Cello
John Marietta is our musical compass, our quality control department, our most fine editor. Our most valuable ear. (M-V-E!)
John is a music educator. He has a Bachelor’s in Music Education, and a Master’s in Cello Performance!
He teaches for Louisville JCPS, he’s the orchestra director at Seneca High School, he plays with the Paducah Symphony Orchestra, and he also keeps busy with string quartet gigs!
Owen Heritage
Keyboards
Owen Heritage is our levity. Positive, humble. A lover of good music, good people, cats, and a well timed quip.
Originally from England, Owen studied music at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. He has lived in the Kentuckiana area since 2002.
Owen is the founder and director of New Albany’s Community Music Alliance - a non-profit music education center - where he directs their CMA Orchestra and Choir, and works as a piano teacher. His claim to fame: He once performed for Queen Elizabeth II.
